Have we gotten so complacent with just going through the motions, that we are forgetting to live with intent? We should be actively pursuing Jesus, living with purpose for His kingdom, and standing on the promises we have been given. But instead, we go through the motions of church on Sunday, school during the week, not to mention the sports practices and games, along with all of the chores that have to be done, appointments to attend, and I forgot about that birthday party this weekend, I guess I will move things around to fit that in too. MOTIONS. Are you moving Jesus around to fit in things? Or are you moving things around to fit in Jesus?
Have you heard the phrase, “You need to make time for it.”? The issue is you can’t “make” time. There are 24 hours in a day. You can’t make any more time, but you can, “move things around” to accommodate your priorities. Then comes the question, where do your priorities lie? And where does Jesus fit in?
Colossians 1:16-17
“For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”
If we delve into the theology of this verse for a minute, we see 3 things:
- He has divine authority, He is supreme
- All things were created through Him and for Him, He is the creator of purpose
- He is the sustainer of all life; He has ongoing power that reigns
Matthew 6:30-33
“If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”
Psalms 37:4-7
“Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.”
Our lives should reflect Christ in all that we do. He should be at the center of it all. Living a Christ-centered life means seeking God first, trusting Him wholly, surrendering our flesh for His will, and reflecting His love for others. Applying these verses to your everyday lives will not only impact others positively but cultivate a life that honors God and a life that experiences His peace.
Revelations 3:15-17
“I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked”
This verse warns us against being complacent. Being lukewarm is neither fully committed or completely indifferent. Being a lukewarm Christian will lead to a lack of spiritual vitality. While being cold isn’t ideal, at least it is honest with God. Being an on-fire Christian or hot signifies a passion and relationship with God. A fervent and genuine devotion for Him.
This scripture is challenging us believers to check our temperature. Are we on-fire, sold-out, and completely devoted to God, or are we settling for lukewarm existence? Jesus wants a personal relationship. He is urging us today to be a person of action. Someone who pursues such a faith that we make an impact in the world around us. Everywhere we walk into, work, school, the store, jiffy lube, the post office, people are not going to see you. They will see God through you because you are the reflection of Him.
Romans 12:2
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
I leave you with this thought. God has made clear the importance of being a living sacrifice and on fire for Him. Are you complacent with where you are right now? Or are you actively pursuing Him and living with intent? Choose to be different.
